| Shown here is a vividly colored graphium weiskei,
also known as the purple spotted swallowtail, or
the purple passion, butterfly from Papua New Guinea.
The graphium weiskei is one of the most striking
butterflies that flies between 4500-8000 ft. altitudes
and is rarely seen below 4000 ft. Spending most
of its time high in the forest canopy it is seldom
seen by humans. It has an incredible combination
of deep colors such as purple, pink, green, blue,
and white on velvet-black background.
